Not upto the mark: Harmanpreet Kaur blames poor fielding for loss in 1st ODI

Due to sloppy ground fielding, the Indian women's cricket team managed to dismiss just four Australian batters.

Despite a great fightback in the first innings, the India women’s cricket team was no match for Australia in the IND vs AUS Women’s 1st ODI. Defending 283, Harmanpreet Kaur and Co. started well with the ball. Sneh Rana provided a wicket in the first over, but the Indian bowling lineup struggled to keep up with Aussie batters.

After a disappointing show in the second inning, Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur showed her displeasure about their sloppy fielding. Harmanpreet said the bowlers did their job and the dew didn’t affect their game, but it was their fielding that cost them the game.

I think we managed a good score, but I think the fielding was not upto the mark. It is something that didn’t really work well for us. After a while, dew was there but the bowlers were trying their best to attack the stumps, but fielding was something I feel played a really big role today.

When asked about the turning point of the match, Harmanpreet Kaur credited Pooja Vastrakar for bringing them back into the game in the first inning.

Pooja got us back into the game with her batting, and we need to keep doing the right things.

On how they’ll approach the upcoming IND vs AUS Women ODIs, the Indian skipper stated that they’ll not move away from their game and continue playing an aggressive brand of cricket.

Just need to back ourselves up and play that aggressive brand of cricket.
