Harmanpreet Kaur at No. 3 for Women’s T20 World Cup? Coach Muzumdar maintains suspense

Anjum Chopra had gone on to say that Harmanpreet Kaur is a must for India at No. 3 in the T20 World Cup.

Who should be India’s no.3 batter in the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup? In an exclusive interview with InsideSport, former skipper Anjum Chopra had clearly stated that Harmanpreet Kaur is best suited at No. 3, and wasted at No. 4. It seems like the team management might finally pay heed to what the team actually needs — giving their most experienced player, the most time in the middle.

At the press conference on Tuesday, head coach Amol Muzumdar hinted that Harmanpreet could be brought in at no. 3, but resisted against opening the cards already. He said, “Obviously, I said the top 6 are brilliant and the best in the country. Of course we have identified (No.3 batter) but we will reveal it just before the 11 is announced. I know for a fact that the number three position sets the game in any form of the game in fact.”

Advantage India for T20 World Cup

On the other hand, Muzumdar also clarified that the tournament shifting to the UAE could be a blessing in disguise for India, since the conditions there are home-like. He said, “We had specifically gone to Bangladesh in the month of May and played 5 T20Is over there, just to get used to the conditions. But things have changed and it has shifted to Dubai.

“I think conditions would be similar to what we have over here in India but just at the start of the season, what my experience is in the IPL (2020) – there might be a little bit of bounce in initial matches but overhead conditions remain the same, just as India,” he added.
