Harmanpreet Kaur and Co. landed in Dambulla on Tuesday night ahead of the Women’s Asia Cup 2024. The Asian Cricket Council uploaded pictures where skipper Kaur, Shweta Sehrawat, Asha Sobhana, Sajeevan Sajana, Pooja Vastrakar, and Renuka Singh were seen carrying their luggage. Sri Lanka Cricket also shared pictures of Jemimah Rodrigues, Shreyanka Patil and Harmanpreet landing in Dambulla.
Earlier, the Indian cricketers posted photos before departing for Sri Lanka from Chennai. India’s first match in the Asia Cup is against arch-rivals Pakistan, captained by Nida Dar, on Friday, July 19 at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium.
Harmanpreet’s women are placed in Group A along with Pakistan, Nepal, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Thailand, and Bangladesh form Group B. The semis will take place on July 26 before the final on July 28.
Indian Women cricketers move up in rankings
The likes of Harmanpreet Kaur and Shefali Verma have moved up in the latest ICC Women’s T20I rankings due to their strong batting performances in the recently concluded bilateral series against South Africa.
India’s skipper Harmanpreet Kaur moved up three spots and found the 12th place, while the explosive opening batter Shefali Verma climbed up two spots to share the 15th place with England’s Danni Wyatt and New Zealand’s Amelia Kerr.
In the bowling rankings, India’s Radha Yadav moved up eight spots to share 15th place with Nonkululeko Mlaba of South Africa. On the other hand, Pooja Vastrakar climbed six spots to take 23rd place in the bowling rankings.
