While the Team India squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 was announced on Tuesday by the BCCI, it seems like everyone is still talking about it, more so because of the omission of one player only — Rinku Singh. The hard-hitting southpaw was overlooked for reasons unknown, despite being a proven performer for India in all the T20I matches he has played for the country.
The Ajit Agarkar-led selection panel did well to accommodate Sanju Samson and Yuzvendra Chahal in the team for the very first time for the T20 World Cup, but still, it wasn’t the perfect team. However, there is still hope for Rinku Singh, as the changes in the squads can be made till May 25.
But a day after the squad was announced, a BCCI source told PTI, “Rinku was just unlucky.” It seems it was a direct tussle between Shivam Dube and Rinku, and the former made it on the basis of his superior IPL form. “It was a toss-up between Dube and Rinku with Hardik also in the squad,” said the source.

It is important to note that Hardik Pandya, who has been in poor form this IPL 2024, and whose captaincy has been ordinary too, was one name who was debated a lot. “There was a lot of debate over Hardik’s place in the squad while (Sanju) Samson was not debated much,” the source added.
