Imagine that you were the frontrunner for a promotion. You and everyone around knew the job was yours, but at the last time, someone else was promoted ahead of you. That’s exactly what happened to Hardik Pandya. He was going to be India’s next T20I captain, taking over Rohit Sharma as soon as the Men in Blue won the T20 World Cup. But instead, Suryakumar Yadav was named captain.
All fun & games
Naturally, one won’t be happy with the decision or the individual who takes something that you feel is yours. But Hardik Pandya has shown he’s above all this. He has not once ounce of animosity towards his Mumbai Indians teammate. The all-rounder was seen having fun with Suryakumar Yadav during practice ahead of the India vs Sri Lanka 1st T20I on July 27.
Under India’s fielding coach, T Dilip’s guidance, the Men in Blue were doing catching drills and competing to see who won the direct throw challenge. The video montage released by the BCCI ended with Sanju Samson taking a phenomenal diving catch and his teammates yelling ‘medal, medal, medal’, indicating he’ll win the famous fielding medal presented by Dilip.
