Hardik Pandya repeat offender, fined for same offence he earned one-match ban

Hardik Pandya has been fined Rs 12 lakhs for maintaining a slow-over rate in MI's game against GT on Saturday

Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya has been fined once again for maintaining slow-over rate in the match against Gujarat Titans. The all-rounder had earned a one-match ban and missed MI’s IPL 2025 opener for repeating the offence thrice in the last season. GT handed MI a 36-run thrashing in Ahmedabad on Saturday to pick up their first win of IPL 2025.

Hardik Pandya fined once again!

Hardik has been fined Rs 12 lakhs for maintaining a slow-over rate vs GT. As per Cricbuzz, he was let off with just a fine for MI’s first offence in IPL 2025. Pandya had been fined twice already in IPL 2024 and a third offence in MI’s last league match in the previous season saw the captain earn a one-match suspension.

However, the rules for slow-over rates have changed this time.

No match bans for over-rate offences

  • Captains will no longer face match bans for slow over-rate offences.
  • Instead, they’ll receive demerit points and a 25-75% match fee deduction.
  • A Level 1 offence will lead to demerit points, while a Level 2 offence will attract four demerit points

What happened in GT vs MI match?

Chasing 197 runs, MI got off to a nightmare of a start, with Siraj castling both Rohit and Rickleton, sending them packing for single digit scores. Prasidh got rid of the dangerous Tilak Verma (39) and Suryakumar Yadav (48). Robin Minz had yet another poor outing as he was dismissed by Kishore for just 3 runs.

The final nail in the coffin was hammered by Rabada as he got rid of a struggling Hardik Pandya for 11 runs off 17 deliveries. The game was already over despite Naman Dhir and Santner staying unbeaten on 18 runs at the end of the game.
