Hardik Pandya makes first public appearance after becoming MI captain

Though absent from the recent Afghanistan series, Hardik Pandya is expected to return to action in the 2024 Indian Premier League, leading his team Mumbai Indians.

Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya, currently recovering from an ankle injury, made a rare public appearance alongside Union Home Minister Amit Shah at the inauguration of the Gandhinagar Premier League on Monday.

This rare appearance marked Hardik Pandya first since the 2023 World Cup, where he sustained the injury. After becoming Mumbai Indians captain, this was also his first appearance in public. He joined Shah in unveiling the league trophy, signifying his support for initiatives promoting physical health and sports culture.

Promoting Sportsmanship:

Union Home Minister Shah expressed confidence that the league, played across constituencies in his Gandhinagar Lok Sabha area, will foster sportsmanship and healthy lifestyles. This initiative aligns with Prime Minister Modi’s nationwide “Parliamentarian Sports Competition.”

Hardik Pandya absence and comeback:

During Hardik Pandya recovery, Suryakumar Yadav and Rohit Sharma stepped up as captains for the Indian T20I team.

Suryakumar Yadav impressed with his leadership and batting, while Rohit Sharma marked his return with a century after a year’s break.
