India’s dynamic all-rounder, Hardik Pandya, is poised to make a strong comeback as he recovers from his ankle injury, raising expectations for his leadership in the upcoming three-match T20I series against Afghanistan starting on January 11. Additionally, Pandya is anticipated to feature in the next season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Reliable sources close to the developments confirmed to TOI on Saturday that Hardik Pandya has fully recovered from his ankle injury and has been diligently training every day. Contrary to earlier reports suggesting an extended absence from the field, sources assured that Hardik Pandya is on track to lead the Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2024.
The ankle injury, incurred during India’s 2023 ODI World Cup league match against Bangladesh in Pune last November, had forced Pandya to miss the remainder of the World Cup and the subsequent tour of South Africa. However, recent updates indicate that he is set to return to action, with sources stating, “He should definitely be fit for the IPL, and possibly the Afghanistan T20Is.”
Quashing rumors about Hardik Pandya’s prolonged absence, sources emphasized that there are still nearly four months until IPL 2024, and any speculation about him missing the tournament is unfounded at this point.
Hardik Pandya recovering well
Hardik Pandya himself provided glimpses of his recovery journey through Instagram videos, showcasing his workouts in the gym and spending quality time playing with his son, Agastya. BCCI sources also echoed optimism, stating, “He should be fit soon and will play in the IPL.”
Speaking about Pandya’s potential return to international cricket, BCCI secretary Jay Shah, at the Women’s Premier League auction on December 9, revealed, “We are monitoring it (Pandya’s fitness) on a day-to-day basis. He is at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) only. He is working very hard, and we will let you know in due course the moment he is fit. Hardik could be fit before the Afghanistan series also.”
As anticipation builds, fans eagerly await Hardik Pandya return to the field, leading the charge for India in the upcoming T20I series and beyond.
