Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya on Monday opened up on the ‘freak injury’ he suffered during the 2023 ODI World Cup. Pandya on Monday said he has been fit since January 2024 and explained why he had not returned to the Indian team. Pandya also revealed that he will play IPL 2024 as an all-rounder.
Speaking to the media on Monday, ahead of the commencement of the Mumbai Indians’ IPL 2024 season, Hardik Pandya insisted that his ankle injury—which occurred during India’s fourth World Cup league match—had nothing to do with his prior medical history or level of fitness before disclosing that he had recovered from it in January.
The all-rounder, though, chose not to join the Indian team because they were already in the middle of their T20 International series against Afghanistan, and he had no other international matches to choose from as Hardik was not in contention to play in Test matches.

“Yes, I will be bowling. My injury in [the] World Cup was a freak injury. It had nothing to do with my past injuries, it had nothing to do with my fitness. When I got fit, the Afghanistan [T20I] series had just started [in January]. I’ve been fit since then, but there were no games to play,” he said.
