Harbhajan Singh wants Virat Kohli to return as RCB skipper after superstar’s immaculate IPL 2024 season

Harbhajan Singh wants Virat Kohli to return as RCB skipper after superstar’s immaculate IPL 2024 season

Virat Kohli, who stepped down from captaincy from 2021, is highly unlikely to return as a regular skipper for RCB. However, his old Indian teammate bats for the modern-day master to lead again.

In a recent press conference organized by Star Sports, former India off-spinner Harbhajan Singh expressed his thoughts on who should lead the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) next season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Well, any guesses? Harbhajan surprisingly suggested that Virat Kohli should be once again considered as an option for RCB to lead the side.

Kohli doing everything but not tossing the coin: Harbhajan

Kohli, who stepped down as RCB captain after the 2021 season, has been instrumental in the team’s success for more than a decade. He skippered 143 times for the Red and Gold franchise, leading them to 66 wins. Harbhajan’s suggestion comes as a surprise, given that Kohli has not been actively involved in the captaincy role since his departure from the position. Harbhajan’s reasoning behind his suggestion is rooted in Kohli’s immense contribution to RCB this season.

In the middle of the season, I messaged him (Kohli). I said why don’t you lead the side, boss? He (Kohli) is doing everything but he is not tossing the coin. Yeah, why not. Bring Virat Kohli as a captain. As MS Dhoni has a lot of impact there in Chennai, Virat Kohli is a big, big leader.,” Bhajji said while answering a query on who should RCB look to appoint as a captain ahead of next season.

“I would want to see Virat Kohli leading RCB. But if they want any younger player, then they should look for some local guy, young guy to lead the side for 4-5 years”

More on Virat Kohli

Can Kohli’s remarkable IPL 2024 form lead him to captain RCB once again?

Virat Kohli unquestionably has been one of the best players in IPL 2024. The current Orange Cap holder has mustered 661 runs at an immaculate average of 66.10. His high energy on the field has certainly lifted the spirits of the team, which has gone to win five consecutive games on the bounce.

However, while Kohli has been walking the talk with his willow, will he take the step to captain RCB once again? As tempting as this proposition may be, the chances of Kohli returning as a permanent RCB captain are highly unlikely. While Faf Du Plessis’ appointment as the skipper in IPL 2022 hasn’t been as fruitful as the franchise would’ve liked, Virat Kohli appears to be in a better frame of mind when competing as a player alone.
