Former India pacer Venkatesh Prasad has been a staunch critic of KL Rahul for his poor run of form in Test cricket. But not anymore, Prasad is happy with the fellow Karnataka batter after he slammed a brilliant century in SA vs IND Centurion Test.
“He has had a great year in one day cricket and in his comeback Test in centurion, played a wonderful knock in the first innings. Happy for him,” Venkatesh Prasad responded to a fan’s tweet.
KL Rahul new King of comeback
After a string of poor shows in Test, KL Rahul was dropped midway through the Border Gavaskar Series at home. And soon, he suffered a hamstring injury that ruled him out for nealry four months. But he battled through pain. And when an opportunity opened up suddenly in Asia Cup, he grabbed it with two hands.
He hit a classy century on return against Pakistan in Asia Cup with Shreyas Iyer out injured. And since then, KL Rahul hasn’t had to look back.
He has finished 2023 with 1060 runs including two centuries and seven fifties while averaging 66.25. And on return to Test cricket, he played the innings of his life.
When wickets kept tumbling around KL Rahul in SA vs IND 1st Test, Rahul kept his compsure, playing a brilliant knock of 101. Many including Sunil Gavaskar hailed that knock as one of the best in overseas conditions.
With India set to face England at home and tour Australia at the end of the year, KL Rahul who is transforming himself as the specialist keeper-batter, will play a major role. And Venkatesh Prasad has warned him to be consistent to survive in Test cricket.
“Consistency in Test Cricket and realising his true potential is what he needs to aspire for imho,” Venkatesh Prasad tweeted.
