On Wednesday, the Andhra captain walked out to bat with a fractured right arm. He turned a left-handed batter and played his shots with just one hand. Despite being in discomfort, Vihari scored 27 off 57 deliveries in the first innings. On Thursday, which was the third day of the game, Vihari once again walked out at no. 11 to bat with a plastered arm to rescue his team.

Andhra Pradesh experienced a horrible batting collapse in the second innings. The Madhya Pradesh bowlers made a startling comeback, picking up all 10 wickets in the second session. Only four out of 11 batters scored in double digits and surprisingly, Hanuma Vihari was one of them.

The 29-year-old had sustained the fracture to his arm in the first inning. While trying to negotiate an Avesh Khan bouncer. But even then, he scored 27 off 57 balls and stitched a crucial partnership with the tail-ender Lalith Mohan. His gutsy effort helped Andhra to reach 379/10 in the first innings, including centuries from batters Karan Shinde and Ricky Bhui.

After his exemplary display of mental strength, Vihari took to Twitter to post a video containing iconic moments of his batting during the match. He wrote in his Twitter post, “Do it for the team. Do it for the bunch. Never give up!!Thank you everyone for your wishes. Means a lot!!.”

Interestingly, this is not the first time that Vihari has done something so heroic and gritty. He had given a glimpse of his team spirit and mental strength when he batted with a torn hamstring and helped India draw the Sydney Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy against Australia in 2021.
