Virat Kohli achieved a World Record when he slammed his 50th ODI ton against New Zealand in the Cricket World Cup semi-finals. By doing so, Kohli surpassed the great Sachin Tendulkar who has 49 ODI centuries to his name. But the records that have been set by the master blaster are huge, can Virat Kohli surpass Sachin Tendulkar’s records across all the formats of the game?
Virat Kohli has been in sensational form in this ongoing Cricket World Cup and has broken quite a few records. But his biggest feat would be surpassing his idol, Sachin Tendulkar. Kohli already surpassed Tendulkar with the most ODI tons, but the apprentice is still behind the master in various aspects.
Virat Kohli’s biggest challenge will be to match and surpass Sachin Tendulkar’s 100 Centuries record across all formats of the game. Sachin raked up 49 ODI tons and 51 Test centuries to achieve a mighty rare feat of 100 centuries overall. Kohli is not far behind, he is second on the list. The former Indian skipper with his latest ton has amassed 80 tons across the three formats of the game.
Despite being 35 years old, Kohli is yet to be finished and is aging like fine wine. But still 20 centuries is a pretty hefty task even for the likes of Virat Kohli. But then again, if any batter can match or surpass it, it most likely will be Kohli.
Among other records set by Sachin, Kohli also needs to slam a double ton in ODIs. Sachin Tendulkar became the first batter to slam a double century in the history of the game, while Kohli has a highest of 183. While hitting double tons is becoming normal nowadays, a strong innings from Kohli can see him reach 200.

In terms of the most runs overall or across Test and ODIs, Kohli is much behind his idol. However, if Kohli continues his red-hot form he will continue to shatter records for fun and match those numbers. Sachin has 15921 runs in Test & 18426 in ODIs. On the other hand, Kohli has managed 8676 runs in Test & 13794 runs in ODIs.
