Gunathilaka Sexual Assault: Danushka Gunathilaka DENIED BAIL, Investigators deem Sri Lankan player to be ‘Flight Risk’ – Check OutGunathilaka’s lawyers SANS Law Associates issued a brief statement, that said: “Danushka Gunathilaka maintains his innocence of all charges. Given the early stages of proceedings, we do not wish to make any further comment and will allow for the matter to be properly ventilated before the Court.”
The alleged victim underwent a brain scan after reporting the incident to the police. As for Gunathilaka, the Sri Lankan player denied all the charges that have been put up against him. “When asked specifically about the nature of consent conversations and actions had the accused could not recall,” the facts sheet said.

Gunathilaka’s troubled past:
- This is not the first time Gunathilaka has been under the scanner.
- In 2017, SLC suspended him for six games. He missed training and appeared for a match without any cricket gear.
- In 2018, one of his close friends was accused of raping a Norweigian woman in Colombo. Police questioned the cricketer in connection with the crime.
- In 2021, SLC suspended him for a year for breaking Covid-19 restrictions in England.
- While Gunathilaka was ruled out following an injury, SLC wants to know why he was not sent back to Colombo.
The police laid out a four-page document where the events have been stated as per the version of the victim. “Investigators, with acknowledgement of [NSW consent legislation] do not find it reasonable that the accused believed he had the free, voluntary and consistent consent of the complainant to the particular sexual activity that took place” said a statement from the Police factsheet.
