Gujarat Giants (GG) and mentor Mithali Raj have amicably parted ways ahead of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 auction. Been with the Giants since 2023, Mithali had originally signed a three-year contract with the franchise but has decided to leave a year early, according to Cricbuzz.
Mithali Raj leaves as Gujarat Giants mentor
There can be two reasons for her departure. The first would be her recent association with the Andhra Cricket Association. Mithali might feel she needs to take her state team to the next level and therefore isn’t ready for WPL commitments right now. The second, of course, is GG’s poor performance, as they ended dead last (fifth) in both 2023 and 2024.

Replacements before WPL 2025 auction
Apart from Mithali, the Giants’ bowling coach, Nooshin Al Khadeer, will also leave. The former Indian spinner was on a 2-year contract with GG, which has come to an end. Nooshin isn’t willing to renew her contract as she’s currently coaching the India Women’s Under-19 team.
Head coach Michael Klinger and fielding coach Carl Hopkinson are expected to continue as Gujarat Giants are posed to announce the replacements for Mithali and Nooshin on December 12, three days before the WPL 2025 auction.
