Standing in his first match as GT captain in IPL 2024, Shubman Gill lost the toss on Sunday, as MI’s Hardik Pandya decided to have a bowl first against a relatively inexperienced-looking Mumbai side. While the opposition went in with four debutants for the match, GT also fielded two in the form of pacer Spencer Johnson and Azmatullah Omarzai.
The match against Mumbai will be a stern test for Shubman Gill & Co, who would be looking to make a mark against one of the best sides in the competition. The GT management managed to strike a balance in the playing XI, with Shubman opening with Saha, followed by Sai Sudarshan, and Vijay Shankar.
The middle-order will rely on South African David Miller. The bowling will be guided by India veteran Umesh Yadav, who will have Spencer as his pace partner. As for spin, there will be Rashid Khan, Sai Kishore and Tewatia. With a number of key players missing from the Mumbai side, Gujarat definitely looks stronger of the two, but one can never rule out MI.
