The match against Kolkata Knight Riders was the second instance when Hardik Pandya has missed a T20 game for the Gujarat Titans. Ever since becoming the GT skipper in IPL 2022, this is the second time Pandya has missed a T20 match for the Ahmedabad-based franchise. Before the match against Kolkata, Pandya missed the T20 game against Chennai Super Kings played at the MCA Stadium in Pune. Gujarat Titans won the match by 3 wickets with just one ball to spare.
Coincidentally, Rashid Khan played a 21-ball, 40-second cameo to help Gujarat win the game off the penultimate ball of the game. Back then, Hardik Pandya missed the match due to an injury concern.
Hardik Pandya, who played for the Mumbai Indians from 2015 to 2021, was released by the team ahead of the IPL 2022 auction. The Gujarat Titans signed him for Rs 15 crore and also gave him the captaincy of the franchise. He led the Gujarat Titans to the IPL title in his first year as captain, becoming only the second captain, after Shane Warne, to lead a team to IPL glory in their first year as captain.
