A Gujarat Titans official has waded into the row between franchises and pitch curators in IPL 2025 and has seemingly taken a dig at KKR. It all started with captain Rahane asking for a spin-friendly pitch at the Eden Gardens. The controversy snowballed with a heated back-and-forth between the team and curator Sujan Muherjee. Soon after, LSG, CSK & RCB too joined the bandwagon.
GT official takes dig at KKR over “home advantage”
Speaking to Times of India, GT COO Col. Arvinder Singh echoed Mukherjee’s sentiments and noted that the rules clearly say that teams have no say in preparation of pitches. He claimed a team enjoys “home advantage” because they are expected to know the conditions at home better than the visiting team. The GT official claimed that asking for pitches to be prepared in their favour wasn’t exactly home advantage.
“The home advantage has to stem from the fact that that is your home. You are supposed to know those conditions better than anybody else who’s coming, because that is where you play most of your games, where you practice,” he said.
“To say that I need home advantage because I want this kind of a pitch. Sorry, I don’t think that cuts any ice with anybody,” he added.
IPL teams vs pitch curators in 2025
It all started with KKR captain Rahane asking for a spin-friendly pitch at the Eden Gardens. After back-and-forth retorts with curator Sujan Mukherjee, Rahane opted to finally say “Main kuchh bolunga toh bawal ho jayega.”
Similarly, LSG mentor Zaheer Khan had criticized the pitch provided for the team’s first home game at the Ekana. Following the defeat to PBKS, he claimed that it felt like a Punjab curator had prepared the surface for LSG’s home game.
CSK coach Stephen Fleming had also inserted himself into the “home advantage” debate. He had claimed thatthat the team enjoyed no home advantage at the MA Chidambaram stadium. He said that the team found it very hard to figure out the surface after losing the game to RCB.
On Thursday, RCB mentor Dinesh Karthik was the latest to join the debate. He claimed that the Chinnaswamy curator hadn’t provided “good pitches” for their home games.
