In a major boost for SunRisers Hyderabad ahead of IPL 2024, Sri Lanka all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga is all set to be available for the 17th season of the Indian Premier League. Hasaranga was ruled out of SRH’s matches in the initial phase after being named in the Sri Lanka Squad for Tests against Bangladesh after making a major U-turn on his retirement.
However, the worry was short-lived for the SRH, with the Sri Lanka star all set to return to the camp after being suspended from the first two Tests.
Why has Wanindu Hasaranga been suspended?
Wanindu Hasaranga has been suspended after being found guilty of breaching conduct during the third ODI in the recently concluded series against Bangladesh. The incident occurred in the 37th over of the game when Hasaranga snatched his cap from one of the umpires and criticized the umpiring during the match.
As a consequence, he received a 50 per cent fine and accumulated three demerit points for his offence. This brings his total demerit points to eight within a 24-month period.
Hasaranga was already on five demerit points after receiving three demerit points in the third T20I against Afghanistan in Dambulla last month. Consequently, he was suspended for two T20Is against Bangladesh.
Now, with the addition of the latest demerit points, he has surpassed the threshold of eight demerit points, resulting in his suspension from participating in Tests.
