The joint-most successful Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, the Mumbai Indians (MI), has undoubtedly one of the best talent scouts. While it is true that the team possesses some world-class players, with Rohit Sharma and others at helm, their search for emerging talents is one of the best in the league. We all know that the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, and Tilak Varma have developed into stars. But can you imagine that the likes of Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Nicholas Pooran, Josh Hazlewood, and Axar Patel were all first unearthed by the Mumbai Indians? It now looks like IPL 2025 auction also saw MI sneak in some real talents again!
IPL 2025: Krishnan Shrijith to take finishing duites with Hardik Pandya?
You surely must’ve heard Krishnan Shrijith’s name yesterday. After all, he put up the best performance of his domestic career so far, single-handedly taking Karnataka to a mammoth 383-run chase against SMAT winners Mumbai. KL Shrijith’s unbeaten 150 led his side to an amazing win with 22 balls remaining.
Mumbai Indians let go of Ishan Kishan, who was roped in by the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for Rs 11.25 crore. Kishan’s absence will surely be felt by MI but this opens with the opportunity for Shrijith. He is a player with similar traits to Ishan Kishan—a flamboyant southpaw who can also keep wickets. While the new MI signing usually bats at number four, he can take up the finishing role alongside Hardik Pandya.
Shrijith has been in terrific form of late, hammering 213 runs at 42.60 and at a superb SR of 176.03 during the recent Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Prior to that, he shone terrifically during the KSCA Maharaja Trophy as well, where he scored 349 runs at 43.63 and at a SR of almost 140 for the Hubli Tigers. Getting Shrijith at just Rs 30 lac is surely a steal deal for the Mumbai Indians.

IPL 2025: Allah Ghazanfar & this Indian pacer show superb signs
Allah Ghazanfar is currently the hottest property when it comes to mystery spin. Can you imagine that he is a 2006-born but has already taken 21 international wickets for Afghanistan? Mumbai Indians, who have had several issues due to their mediocre spin department, went all in for Ghazanfar, who was signed for Rs 4.80 crore. His name entered the IPL 2025 mega auction after the right-armer played a crucial part in Afghanistan’s triumph at the ACC Emerging T20 Cup, taking 6 wickets at an economy of only 6.07.
But yesterday, Ghazanfar did something even more remarkable, taking his second fifer in ODI cricket. He took 5/33 against Zimbabwe in Harare, helping Afghanistan clean sweep 3-0. His addition will surely boost the “mystery” in the Mumbai Indians, who desperately need their spin bowling to complement pacers. Talking about pacers, MI also got domestic talent Ashwani Kumar. He is a left-arm pacer from Punjab. Before Anmolpreet Singh startled everyone by becoming the fastest Indian to score a List A century (in 35 balls), Ashwani set up the win. Against Arunachal Pradesh, the pacer took 3-37, wreaking havoc against the top-order.
