Delhi Capitals opener Jake Fraser-McGurk broke free from the shackles of poor form with a scintillating ton in a practice match ahead of IPL 2025. The explosive Australian batter is all but confirmed to open the innings for DC along with vice-captain Faf du Plessis. After impressing in IPL 2024, McGurk had a rather poor run in his international outings. However, with IPL 2025 drawing closer, he seems to have rediscovered his form.
DC’s JFM goes all guns blazing
Fraser-McGurk turned back the clock to play some breathtaking shots in the practice match. He smashed 110 runs off just 39 deliveries, including nine fours and ten sixes. The Australian’s knock propelled his team to a mammoth 289-run total.
Talking about his last IPL season with the Delhi Capitals, McGurk played seven matches, scoring 210 runs at a staggering strike rate of 238.6, including two half-centuries, 25 fours, and 16 sixes. Delhi Capitals retained him, showing tremendous faith in his potential.
However, McGurk did not have a great season in the Big Bash League (BBL). In 10 matches, he only managed to score 188 runs. He then flopped in he ODI series against Sri Lanka, scoring just 9 and 2 runs in two matches. He was a part of Australia’s Champions Trophy squad but warmed the bench throughout the tournament. DC will be counting on the batter to replicate his heroics from IPL 2024 in the upcoming season. He will play a crucial role in providing an explosive start, along with veteran du Plessis.
DC will commence their IPL 2025 campaign by taking on LSG in their tournament opener on March 24.
