“Going with the flow” – Sanju Samson reveals mantra for recent Team India success to AB de Villiers

In November, Samson had become the first-ever player in T20I history to score three hundreds in a year.

2024 was a great year for Sanju Samson. The talented batter finally showed his true potential. He justified those who have been saying for years why many labelled him as the most talented batter in India. Although he managed to feature in just one format (T20Is), Samson did enough for everyone to go gaga for him.

What exactly did he change? How did he go from averaging 15.60 in 202 to scoring over 30 more runs per innings? AB de Villiers posed the question to Samson, and he stated that he hadn’t changed a lot of things. The stylish batter stated that previously he wasn’t always at his best mentally because he often used to warm the bench, but now, he’s always locked in.

“I was just thinking about the same question: What did you do differently? What is happening? So, I kind of figured out that every time I was selected for the Indian series, like I just started playing more games, right? But before also I knew that I might not end up in the 11; I might be just travelling by the sidelines. But I made sure that I prepared properly, like I used to come for every series, like properly geared up and properly prepared,” Samson said on ABD’s YouTube channel.

I just love to go and dominate: Samson

“I’m just going with the flow. Something is happening and I am very grateful for that and I just want to keep continuing actually. So exactly I don’t know what has happened. I just love to go and dominate. I just love to be the dominator and that’s what my character is like off the field. I like to be positive, so I just want to go out and express myself. Every time I play a T20 game, I just feel that 20 overs is a small thing boss. I think batters are waiting in the dressing room. So you just go out there and do what you can best and then if it flows,” he added.
