Cricket Australia on Monday launched an investigation on Australian cricketer Glenn Maxwell a day after he was hospitalized following a night out in Adelaide. According to the Daily Telegraph that first reported the incident, Maxwell was in Adelaide watching the popular band Six and Out which stars Brett Lee at the time of the incident. Details of what happened are yet to be confirmed, but the Daily Telegraph understands that paramedics were called to the scene and Maxwell was rushed to hospital, though his stay was brief.
According to reports, the incident did not involve anyone else. On Monday morning, Maxwell was provisionally withdrawn from Australia’s One Day International (ODI) series against West Indies, though Cricket Australia said it had nothing to do with the Adelaide incident.
“Cricket Australia is aware of an incident involving Glenn Maxwell in Adelaide at the weekend and is seeking further information,” a statement said.
“It is not related to him being replaced in the ODI squad, a decision that was made following the BBL and based on his individual management plan. Maxwell is expected to return for the T20 series. No further comment will be made at this time.”
It remains to be seen what kind of incident forced Maxwell for a visit to the hospital, and whether the incident will lead to more serious repercussions later on.
