Glenn Maxwell gets injured, to miss Melbourne Star’s BBL match vs Perth Scorchers

Melbourne Stars skipper Glenn Maxwell has been ruled out of their next BBL 2023/24 match due to a forearm injury.

Melbourne Stars skipper Glenn Maxwell injured his forearm muscle on Thursday while batting against Brisbane Heat, and is all set to miss their upcoming match against Perth Scorchers. As per the official website of the franchise, Maxwell will undergo rehab immediately. In the match, he ended up scoring 23 from 14 balls, but his side was eventually beaten by 103 runs.

Meanwhile, that is not the only injury concern in the team, as Nathan Coulter-Nile also had a calf strain in the same match against the Heat. “Nathan Coulter-Nile will undergo scans this weekend to determine damage to a calf injury suffered whilst bowling against the Brisbane Heat,” a club statement said.

Melbourne Stars vs Brisbane Heat in BBL

As far as BBL’s fate match between Melbourne and Brisbane is concerned, the latter looked in total control. In just the opening match of the BBL 2023/24 season, Colin Munro scored a swashbuckling 99 from 61 balls for Brisbane, to take them to 214/3. Marnus Labuschagne also chipped in with a valuable 30. Joel Paris leaked away 46 runs in the process.

As for Melbourne’s chase, they never really got momentum in the innings. Apart from Hilton Cartwright’s 33 from 16 balls, there was no real effort. Maxwell, of course, suffered and had to get medical assistance twice. Mitchell Swepson was the best bowler for Brisbane and returned with figures of 3/23.
