Chennai Super Kings are one of the most successful IPL franchises along with Mumbai Indians. CSK have won 5 trophies. However, what makes CSK stand apart from other teams are their consistency. CSK have qualified for the playoffs 12 times in 14 appearances so far. They often manage to bring the best out of players who have failed for other franchises. While one might choose to look at the positive change on the players’ part, former Indian cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu credited the franchise and MS Dhoni for getting the best out of the players.
Players such as Shivam Dube, Shane Watson and Ambati Rayudu have excelled in CSK colours but has not been able to replicate their form for the other franchises. What can be the reason? According to Sidhu it is the ‘Dhoni effect’.
In response to a question on Star Sports concerning Sameer Rizvi’s elevation above MS Dhoni to the finisher position, Sidhu said the team was correct to place the uncapped Indian player higher in the batting order.
“Talent is nothing without opportunity. You have to give youngsters opportunity. One is giving opportunity and the other thing is the player accepting the challenge. You have got to give Rizvi that confidence,” Sidhu said.

“The same player isn’t that strong in the other team, but when he comes to Dhoni, he becomes a completely different player, how? Because a good leader is the one who walks behind him and ignites faith,” Sidhu added.
