The renovation work started right after the group stage matches of IPL 2023

As the home ground for five-time IPL winners Mumbai Indians, the Wankhede Stadium had hosted seven league matches during IPL 2023 before work began in improving the outfield, which started as soon as the league round of the IPL ended. To note, the first match at the venue will be played between the defending champions England and Proteas South Africa on October 21.

The Mumbai Cricket Association also confirmed that they will be renovating the stadium’s hospitality boxes. Wankhede holds a special place for all the Indian fans as the Men in Blue came triumph against Sri Lanka during the 2011 World Cup final’s. However, this time, World’s largest cricketing stadium in Ahmedabad will do the honours of hosting the epic clash.

India who tasted their last ICC success in 2013 that too under the leadership of MS Dhoni are under immense pressure to perform in the grand event. It must be mentioned that since the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy, India have featured in 4 semi-finals and 4 finals of ICC events and lost all. The latest one came against Australia in the final match of the World Test Championship 2021-23.
