Nothing’s going for Gautam Gambhir. Since taking over from Rahul Dravid as the India cricket team’s head coach, Gambhir has lost an ODI to Sri Lanka for the first time in 27 years, gotten whitewashed at home for the first time in Indian Test cricket history, and is currently at risk of losing a Border-Gavaskar Trophy after 10 years.
Gambhir’s issue with players
Reports have emerged claiming that all is not well in the dressing room. There are talks of Rohit Sharma‘s potential retirement, a player who wants the Test captaincy, not even everyone being on board with how Gambhir communicates with them, and thinks Ravi Shastri and Dravid were easier to deal with.
Gambhir is also apparently not happy with certain players for not sticking with the plan in Melbourne and also planning to reprimand a big player by leaving him out in Sydney. Amid all the scrutiny over his coaching, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has also caught something of which they aren’t a fan.
BCCI unhappy with Team India support staff member
According to PTI, one of the key members of the support staff has been travelling all over Australia with a personal assistant. That person used to have access to the FOP (Field of Play) during the Indian Premier League (IPL) and would enter the playing arena after the matches were concluded while donning a franchise jersey. His presence in a box dedicated to the BCCI members isn’t being appreciated.
It’s uncertain who this person in question is, and neither is it clear who the support staff member in question is. Among the big names, Morne Morkel, Abhishek Nayar, and Ryan ten Doeschate were appointed as the assistant coaches by Gambhir while T Dilip continued as the fielding coach.
