India cricket team head coach heaped praise on the side and skipper Suryakumar Yadav after the series win against Sri Lanka. Despite being successful on his first outing as the Indian coach, Gambhir emphasised on the need for players to focus on their fitness for the season ahead. Former vice-captain Hardik Pandya summarized the series for the dressing room, congratulating SKY, Bishnoi and others for their incredible performances on field.
Gambhir stresses on fitness after first win as India coach
While Gambhir showered praise on the Suryakumar Yadav-led side for their performance in the T20Is vs SL, he also fired a warning to other players over their fitness. The new head coach asked the players who would get an additional break as they were not a part of the ODIs to ensure that they return to the team with full fitness foe the Bangladesh series.
“Make sure you come back fit for the Bangladesh series. You can take a break, you deserve it. But more importantly keep your fitness levels & skills high for the series. You cannot come for the series thinking I can just turn up,” Gambhir said while addressing the dressing room.
Hardik Pandya heaps praise on skipper SKY
Hardik Pandya, who was snubbed from the T20I captaincy right before the Sri Lanka series, credited the spinner duo of Washington Sundar and Ravi Bishnoi for their all-round contributions which helped India win the series. Further, Pandya heaped praise on skipper Suryakumar Yadav for using his bowlers in the right manner and labelled his captaincy as brilliant.
