Gautam Gambhir has finally responded to his middle finger reaction on Monday. To note, the former Indian opener was captured showing his middle finger to the fans during India vs Nepal clash being played in the Asia Cup 2023. After the video went viral on the social media platforms, the Southpaw stated that he made the gesture towards some Pakistani fans who were making abusive remarks towards India.
I cannot take anyone saying bad things about my country: Gautam Gambhir
“The crowd that was made up of Pakistani fans were shouting anti india slogans were also passing comments on Kashmir. As an Indian I can’t take anyone saying this about my country hence reacted this way. What you see on social media isn’t always the correct picture,” said Gambhir.
To note, Gambhir is a part of the Star Sports team and is working as a panelist and commentator for the ongoing Asia Cup 2023. In the video, the Soutpaw was returning back to the stadium as he turned back and made the obscene gesture. Some of the video on social media claimed that the fans were chanting Kohli-Kohli, referring to the feud they had during the Indian Premier League earlier this year. However, the former opening batter has cleared the air now.
Earlier, Gambhir had slammed Kohli for his poor shot selection during the India vs Pakistan clash. “That was a nothing shot, neither forward, neither back. I think was a bit casual. That is what you get when you play someone like Shaheen Afridi. You do not know whether to go forward or back,” he said.
“Kohli was a touch unlucky. Inside edge, the ball did not come on to the bat and maybe even kept a bit low. But credit to Shaheen Shah Afridi for altering his length,” Gambhir added.
