Philip Salt has shone brightly for Kolkata Knight Riders. Since last season, KKR has been suffering from a dependable opener. Come IPL 2024, KKR played a gamble. They decided to bench Rahmanullah Gurbaz and opted to start Phil Salt. The Englishman delivered. He hammered a fine fifty to set the pace of the game for the Kolkata outfits.
KKR’s top order might have fumbled, but it was Philip Salt who held the reins of the innings. He smacked 3 fours and 2 sixes to slam a fine54-run knock from just 40 balls.
KKR has gone on to find a gem of a player. In fact, Salt was not on KKR’s radar for the tournament. He remained unsold after a rather dull stint with Delhi Capitals in IPL 2023. The destructive bater was roped in by KKR when Jason Roy opted out of the tournament citing personal reasons.
KKR played a big gamble heading into their opening game. He decided to snub Afghani keeper and opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Instead they gave the opportunity for the over aggressive Philip Salt to open the account. The enforcer continued to have a go at hammer and tongs.
While KKR continued to lose wickets at regular intervals, Salt kept going. He was however dismissed just after reaching his fifty. In a bid to hit a maximum, Salt’s long shot was caught by a brilliant catch by Marco Jansen.
