It looks like India cricket team’s new head coach Gautam Gambhir first-choices for support staff are on the verge of being approved by the BCCI. Abhishek Nayar has been named as an assistant coach for the upcoming white-ball series against Sri Lanka, as per Cricbuzz. Both Nayar and Ryan were a part of Gambhir’s KKR in the IPL.
Nayar to join Gambhir in India’s coaching staff
As per Cricbuzz, Nayar and Ryan will be additions to the staff that has been retained, including fielding coach T Dilip. the report further states that Morne Morkel could bag the role of the bowling coach for the side. This means, Gautam Gambhir’s demands for his support staff will be fulfilled as he takes over the reins from Rahul Dravid.
The report further stated that Dilip and Nayar will travel with the team to Colombo on Monday. However, Ryan is expected to join the side after the conclusion of the MLC. Further, the BCCI has reportedly held discussions with Morkel over becoming India’s net bowling coach.
Gambhir specifically asked for Abhishek Nayar following their successful stint with KKR in IPL 2024. Abhishek Nayar has been a vital part of the KKR set up for quite some time now. A lot of KKR youngsters have spoken highly of Nayar, with Gambhir being impressed by Nayar’s work ethic as well.
