Gautam Gambhir slams Star Sports for hyping up Virat Kohli, hails Rohit Sharma as ‘selfless’

Gambhir praised Rohit Sharma while calling out the channel for being obsessed with certain players and their stats.

Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir indirectly slammed the Cricket World Cup broadcaster for hyping up Virat Kohli who is on verge of equaling Sachin Tendulkar’s record for most ODI centuries. During an interaction at Star Sports before the start of the IND vs ENG, Gambhir praised Rohit Sharma while calling out the channel for being obsessed with certain players and their stats.

Gambhir lauded Rohit Sharma’s selfless approach as batter and said that the Indian skipper is not “obsessed” with stats and that’s what makes him a great leader.

“Unlike fans and broadcasters, Rohit Sharma is not obsessed with stats, he is making statements with those innings and that’s what a leader does”, Gambhir said on Star Sports.

The former Indian opener further added that Rohit would’ve got 40-45 hundreds but he’s “selfless”.

“Rohit Sharma would’ve got 40-45 hundreds by now, but he’s not obsessed with hundreds. He’s selfless”, Gambhir added.

Gambhir then conveyed the same thoughts in the commentary box during the match and said that no amount of PR or marketing can help a player. He further lauded Rohit and said that the player is leading his team from the front.

Gambhir comments was a clear dig at Virat Kohli who went for the hundred during the final stages in India’s last two games.

The former Indian skipper received few criticism from certain section of social media for not taking the singles and playing for his hundred instead.

Talking about the IND vs ENG, India have been asked to bat first in game. The Men in Blue have been in tremendous form, winning all 5 games they have played so far and are one win away from qualifying for the semi-final.
