As KKR face SRH at home, Eden Gardens, once again the question that has arisen is, will the pitch offer some “more assistance” to the spinners? After the season opener at the same venue against RCB, skipper Ajinkya Rahane had opened up on the issue of “home advantage” asking for rank turners, after having the likes of Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy.
KKR vs Eden Gardens Curator to Continue?
That just started a war of words, where chief curator, sort of, declined. Now, come April 3, it will all be clear, if KKR’s request was finally paid heed to or not? As per a report in RevSportz, even though the pitch will aid the spinners, it won’t be a rank turned, as demanded by the team.
“Even if someone tries his best to make it a rank turner, it won’t be possible,” said a source in the know. “The way the pitches are composed (here), a radical overhaul is not possible. The pitch will have some turn. Then again, the pitch offered turn in the first game (against Royal Challengers Bengaluru) as well.”
No Aid to Sunil Narine & Varun Chakravarthy?
Asked, if the ground staff had stopped watering the pitch, the source added, “Who is saying so? The fundamental principles of pitch preparations will not be compromised.” It is important to note that where in that KKR vs RCB match, Kolkata spinners only bagged two wickets, Bengaluru’s Krunal Pandya alone bagged three, while Suryash Sharma bagged one.
Whatever the outcome of the KKR vs SRH match is now, it seems very likely, that the pitch debate will be re-ignited. In case of a loss for KKR, they might just touch upon the topic again, and in case of a victory, not much might be said about it.
