From slump to WPL 2024 Champion: Shreyanka Patil shines bright for RCB after injury

Not only did she bagged purple cap, but she also instilled fear among the opponents with her accuracy.

WPL 2024: Shreyanka Patil, the rising star of Indian women’s cricket, has cemented her place as a future legend after a remarkable turnaround in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024.

Early Promise and High Praise

Shreyanka Patil, known for her confidence and exceptional bowling skills, impressed everyone in the inaugural WPL season. Her talent even caught the eye of the legendary Ellyse Perry, who lauded Patil’s “special star” potential.

WPL 2024: A Bumpy Start

However, the second season of the WPL wasn’t as smooth sailing for Patil initially. Playing at her home ground in Bengaluru, she struggled to find her rhythm, taking only two wickets in four matches.

Injury Strikes, but Determination remains

A hairline fracture on her non-bowling hand during a match against Mumbai Indians further hampered her progress. Despite wanting to play through the injury, Patil was forced to miss two crucial matches.

Shreyanka’s character truly shone during her enforced break. She actively participated in her recovery, practicing relentlessly on rented grounds to regain her bowling form.

Dominant Return for RCB

Upon returning to action in Delhi-leg of WPL 2024, Patil was a force to be reckoned with. She scalped a staggering 11 wickets in four matches, including two crucial four-wicket hauls against the Delhi Capitals. Not only did she bagged purple cap but she also instilled fear among the opponents with her accuracy.

Her ability to dismiss the dangerous Meg Lanning twice, both LBW, solidified her dominance.

Shreyanka’s impact continued in the Eliminator and the final. Her dismissal of Harmanpreet Kaur in the Eliminator and key wickets in the final helped Royal Challengers Bangalore secure the WPL 2024 championship title.

Warrior Spirit and Bright Future

RCB assistant coach Malolan Rangarajan praised Patil’s fighting spirit and dedication. He highlighted her ability to rise above her age and experience, showcasing a true “warrior” mentality, especially while playing with an injury.

Shreyanka Patil’s remarkable comeback from a challenging start to a triumphant finish in the WPL 2024 solidifies her position as a future star of Indian cricket. Her talent, combined with her unwavering determination, makes her a gem for the national team.
