Shivam Dube has become a name synonymous with power hitting in the Indian Premier League (IPL). His journey, however, wasn’t always smooth sailing. Today we explore Dube’s remarkable transformation at the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and how he could be India’s secret weapon at the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup.

Slow Start for Shivam Dube in IPL

Shivam Dube‘s entry into the IPL at 25 was promising, but his initial seasons were underwhelming. Across three years, he struggled to find consistency, averaging just 22 and scoring at a strike rate of only 120.5. While he showcased glimpses of brilliance, like his unbeaten 64 against CSK in 2021, he couldn’t quite find his footing.

2022: Turning Point under MS Dhoni guidance

A move to CSK in 2022 proved to be the turning point in Shivam Dube’s career. Backed by the legendary MS Dhoni, Dube thrived under his mentorship. He smashed crucial knocks throughout the season, including an unforgettable 95* off just 46 deliveries against his former team, Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

This innings, punctuated by eight towering sixes, announced Dube’s arrival as a force to be reckoned with. He finished the season with a strike rate of over 156, a significant improvement.

Key Player in CSK’s championship run

Shivam Dube continued his impressive form in 2023, playing a pivotal role in CSK‘s historic fifth IPL title win. His impactful performances included a blazing 21-ball 50 against Kolkata Knight Riders, again showcasing his six-hitting prowess.

He remained unbeaten on a crucial 32 in the final against Gujarat Titans, his composure proving instrumental in CSK’s thrilling victory. The season saw him end with an even better strike rate of nearly 159.

2024: Taking it up a notch

This year, Dube has scaled even greater heights. He’s become a consistent run-scorer, amassing over 350 runs at a staggering strike rate of 172.4. He currently leads the list of middle-order batsmen (number 4 and 5) in terms of total runs scored.

His ability to clear the ropes remains a key strength, with 26 sixes to his name so far, placing him among the top three six-hitters in the tournament. His strike rate against pace bowling has also seen a significant jump, reaching 172 this season.
