From Cricket field to IPS office: Meet India cricketer who cracked UPSC

In a narrative that defies conventional expectations, Karthik Madhira, once a promising cricketer, has carved a remarkable path to become an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer in the Maharashtra cadre. Originally hailing from Hyderabad, Karthik Madhira’s cricketing journey spanned multiple levels, from Under-13 to university competitions. However, life took an unexpected turn, leading him to pursue a degree in Computer Science Engineering from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU). As per DNA, reports suggest that personal reasons and an injury influenced his decision to shift focus from cricket to civil services.

Prior to embarking on his IPS journey, Karthik Madhira worked in a job for six months, realizing that his true calling lay in civil services. Undeterred by initial setbacks, including three unsuccessful attempts at the UPSC exams, Karthik remained resilient and dedicated to his goal.

What sets Karthik’s success apart is his holistic approach to UPSC preparation. Opting for Sociology as his optional subject, he strategically prepared for both prelims and mains simultaneously. Continuous revision, participation in multiple test series for both stages of the exam, and honing his writing skills were integral parts of his preparation strategy.

On his fourth attempt in the UPSC 2019 exam, Karthik Madhira achieved a remarkable 103rd rank, securing his position in the esteemed IPS. Currently posted in the Maharashtra cadre, Karthik Madhira’s success serves as a beacon of inspiration for aspiring civil servants.
