If anyone had any doubts about Shubman Gill being a vital cog in the Indian team, it was put to bed in 2023 when he smashed a series of records to cement a place in Indian team in all three formats.

Shubman Gill has always been a talent to reckon with. The 24-year-old batter was hailed as one of the best talents since making his debut. But it was the year 2023 that turned Shubman Gill from a talented cricketer to a world-beater.

The signs were clear when Shubman Gill made his ODI debut in 2019. However, the lack of consistency was a glaring factor in Shubman Gill’s career, as he took three long years to score the maiden century of his international career. However, if anyone had any doubts about Shubman Gill being a vital cog in the Indian team, it was put to bed in 2023 when he smashed a series of records to cement a place in Indian team in all three formats.

2023 started with a bang for Shubman. He received his maiden call-up to India’s T20I side in the series against Sri Lanka in January. He grabbed the headlines a few days later, becoming the youngest batter and fifth Indian batter to score an ODI double century. His magnificent display against New Zealand continued in the T20I series too, with Shubman smashing his maiden T20I century against the Kiwis.

Then came IPL 2023, and he became the talk of the town again. Shubman raced to win the orange cap, scoring an astonishing 890 runs in the tournament. Such was his dominance in the tournament that he became the second highest run scorer ever in a single IPL season.

Gill moved from strength to strength, achieving quite a few milestones along the way throughout the course of the year. Gill became the fourth Indian batter to reach the pinnacle of ICC ODI rankings. He also became the fastest batter to reach 2000 runs. The youngster achieved this feat in just 38 innings.
