Fresh injury blow for Kane Williamson as Kiwi captain retires hurt on return after 6 months

Kane Williamson gets injured on World Cup return, Kiwi skipper retired hurt in NZ vs BAN World Cup clash

New Zealand has been handed a fresh injury blow. Kane Williamson who made his return after a long span of 6 months, got injured on his return. The Kiwi skipper received a blow on his left thumb and decided to leave the field (retired hurt) in the World Cup clash against Bangladesh. Apart from the injury, it was a good return as the star batter slammed a fine fifty to keep the Kiwis on top of the run chase.

Despite a stunning fifty, it is a bit of worry for New Zealand and Kane Williamson. The Kiwi skipper returned to action after a long injury absence and slammed a fine fifty. Keeping the half-century aside, Williamson got injured yet again and had to be retired hurt. It remains to be seen as to when Williamson becomes 100% fit in the ongoing World Cup.

The Kiwis are on a stroll. They played the first 2 games sans their skipper and won, and continued the winning streak even after the return of their skipper. Kane too demonstrated exceptional batting skills when he played a fine knock, 78 unbeaten from 107 deliveries with 8 fours and a solitary sixer.

Kane Williamson slams Fifty on World Cup return

Kiwis were tasked to chase 246 runs by Bangladesh. Rachin Ravindra departed early and skipper Kane Williamson made his way to the crease. Williamson was injured during IPL 2023 in his first match with Gujrat Titans. He hurt and injured his knee while taking a high catch.

Now back from injury after a span of 6 months, Williamson looked in deft touch. But he was injured on his thumb when a throw by a Bangladeshi fielder struck him. With his knee still not being a 100% fit, Williamson walked back to the dugout.

“[on the knock to his thumb] Just made holding the bat a little tough. Secondary to the thumb (laughs),” said Williamson after the game.

“The guys in the first half with the ball were excellent. Was nice to build partnerships and take it deep. Midway through the powerplay we thought we can hit the deck a little hard. Good competitive wicket. Really good team performance. Lockie was outstanding. The seam bowlers were really effective. He hasn’t had the good fortune. Was nice to be out there and be part of some of the partnerships. Just scrapped through the new ball. Great team performance. Mitchell is a great contributor. He is a team first guy. He has been great to watch,” he added.
