Franchises requested 39 players for IPL 2025 auction; acceleration process to start from player no. 116

The auction will take place in Jeddah on November 24-25.

Just 204 spots remain to be filled at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction, which means that 370 players will have to face disappointment. Fortunately, it won’t be dumb luck that decides it. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has communicated with the franchises to get ready with the names they want for the acceleration process at the auction.

What is the acceleration process at the IPL auction?

What’s the acceleration process you ask? Well, after most wanted players have gone under the hammer, franchises are requested to finalize the players they want from the remaining pool. Therefore, only those cricketers who have suitors are tried at the IPL auction, while the remaining go unnoticed.

Unlucky Ricky Bhui

According to Cricbuzz, the acceleration process at the IPL 2025 mega auction will start after the 116th player. This means Ricky Bhui, the 117th player on the list of 574 players, will be the first unfortunate one. Of the remaining 458 players, only 88 will find a home, and the remaining will have to leave empty-handed.

“For your planning purposes please note, subject to timings it is envisaged that the accelerated process will start after player no.116. The first accelerated process will cover all the players from 117 – 574, Franchises will be asked to nominate a set number of players from this group by 10 PM on the evening of 24th November. Once these players (117-574) have been presented, franchises will be requested to submit the names of players (unpresented /unsold) from all those on the full list of 574 for further accelerated presentation. This will be covered in more detail at the auction briefing on 23rd November 2024.” the BCCI communicated with the franchises.

Players requested for IPL 2025 mega auction by franchises

39 players from seven countries (including India) have been requested by the IPL franchises. Just eight of these players are from foreign nations, while the remaining are Indians. Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, who launched their franchise league recently, have seen 10 players requested from their states, but others, like Bengal, aren’t that far behind.

Order of bidding at the IPL 2025 auction

The auction will start with the bidding on marquee players, which includes two sets of 6. This will be followed by capped players. Then a few select uncapped players will go under the hammer after that, and then the IPL 2025 mega auction will move to the accelerated process.
