It seems like whenever Sanjay Manjrekar is announcing the toss honors, the former Indian batsman is getting himself under the firing lines over his comments. After his “behave” remark in MI vs RR game, the official IPL broadcaster found himself in hot water with fans after a comment he made during the toss of the clash between RR vs RCB in IPL 2024.
Prior to the toss, the RR team unveiled their ‘PinkPromise’ initiative for women’s empowerment. This initiative pledged to provide solar panels to six homes in Rajasthan for every six hit during the match. To symbolize this cause, captains Sanju Samson and Faf du Plessis held solar lamps during the toss.
However, it was Manjrekar’s comment following this display that caused a stir. After the captains held the lamps, Manjrekar said, “Now back to serious business,” seemingly referring to the actual act of flipping the coin for the toss.
Manjrekar receives flak from fans
Fans, however, interpreted this as a dismissive and insensitive remark towards the initiative. Many took to social media to criticize Manjrekar, accusing him of downplaying a worthy cause.
