On Thursday, March 14th, Former Sri Lanka star Lahiru Thirimanne encountered a harrowing car accident, resulting in minor injuries to the cricketer. The incident occurred in the Thirapanne area of Anuradhapura when the vehicle Thirimanne was travelling in collided with a lorry, causing significant damage.
Following the accident, Lahiru Thirimanne, the former Sri Lankan cricketer, has been hospitalized. The police reported that the incident occurred in Thrippane, Anuradhapura. Thirimanne has been admitted to Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital with minor injuries sustained in the collision.
The collision, which happened around 7:45 a.m. on the morning of the 14th, involved the car Thirimanne was travelling in and a lorry coming from the opposite direction. Additionally, three other individuals in the car, the lorry driver, and another person have also been injured and hospitalized, as reported by Ada Derana.
Fortunately, the former cricketer sustained only minor injuries, bringing immense relief to his family and supporters. Having retired from cricket in 2023, the 34-year-old has been out of the limelight for quite some time now.
Thirimanne has played 44 Tests, 127 ODIs, and 26 T20Is since making his international debut in 2010. He competed in three T20 World Cups, including Sri Lanka’s victory in 2014, as well as two ODI World Cups. Thirimanne also captained Sri Lanka in five ODIs. He was especially impressive in ODIs in 2015 when he scored 861 runs in 25 games with one century and six half-centuries.
