It hasn’t even been a week since Dean Elgar retired, and the former South African skipper has already announced his return to cricket. However, Elgar isn’t returning to international cricket but rather to the English domestic circuit.
After ending his 11-year career, which saw him score 5,347 runs in 86 matches, Dean Elgar has decided to join Essex County Cricket Club for the next three years. Elgar has a great first-class record and has 48 first-class centuries to his name.
Dean Elgar will play in the County Championship Division One and will be in action starting in April when Essex takes on Nottingham in their opening match of the 2024 season.

Expressing his excitement as he moves into the next phase of his cricketing career, Dean Elgar said:
“I’m thrilled to embark on this new chapter of my cricketing journey with Essex.
The Club have been pushing for honours in recent years and I’m eager to contribute to further success.
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my previous experiences in county cricket and I’m really looking forward to joining up with the squad ahead of season.” he concluded.
