After franchises released their retention lists on November 26, fans have an idea of who will be the sought-after players in the upcoming IPL 2024 auction. Released foreign players who’ll be in demand
Batters who pack a punch like Harry Brook, Tristan Stubbs, and Rilee Rossouw have been released from their franchises. These batters have a great record in T20, striking the ball at over 140 while playing at least 50 matches.
Meanwhile, star bowlers like Wanindu Hasaranga, Jofra Archer, and Lockie Ferguson were also let go. While fitness plays a role in Hasaranga and Archer’s cases, Ferguson’s poor form over the last couple of years is behind his departure from KKR. All three have more than 150 T20 scalps while averaging less than 25 and giving less than 8 runs an over.
World Cup performers who’ll be in demand
Daryl Mitchell, Rachin Ravindra, and Travis Head all did exceedingly well for their sides in the ODI World Cup 2023. Their excellent touch in tough Indian conditions will play a massive role in the upcoming IPL 2024 auction. Head got the ‘Man of the Match’ award in both the semifinal and final, while Ravindra ended the event as New Zealand’s highest run scorer. Mitchell was also in touch, ending up as the 5th highest run-scorer in the tournament.
Emerging star Gerald Coetzee picked up 20 wickets (4th highest in the tournament) and ended as his team’s highest wicket-taker. His speed and courage impressed many, and the pacer will be in demand.
Returning stars who’ll be in demand
Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins are on track to make a return to the league in the IPL 2024 auction. Cummins has played in six editions of the tournament, has 45 wickets in 42 matches, and holds the record for the 3rd fastest 50 in the IPL.
Starc, on the other hand, will be playing for the first time in the league since 2015. The left-arm pacer has 34 wickets in 27 matches at a low economy of 7.17 while striking at 17.06.
