In the IPL 2024 season, there are many players who have a big name in international cricket but did not get a single game in this season. Despite their fame and skills, these players watched from the sidelines throughout the tournament. Let’s take a look at why these renowned players never got their moment in the spotlight during IPL 2024.
Player | Team |
Kyle Mayers | LSG |
Mitchell Santner | CSK |
Glenn Phillips | SRH |
Navdeep Saini | RR |
Rahmanullah Gurbaz | KKR |
Kyle Mayers
Kyle Mayers was the opening batter for Lucknow Super Giants in the previous season, where he scored 379 runs in 13 games. However, in this season, he did not get a single match to play. Quinton de Kock and captain KL Rahul are the opening pair for the franchise in IPL 2024.
Mitchell Santner
Mitchell Santner has been a key bowler for New Zealand. In T20s, he has taken 193 wickets in different leagues. But when it comes to the IPL, he has not been impressive. In 15 matches, Santner has dismissed only 13 batters. CSK bought him in IPL 2022; however, he has not been effective. Therefore, this time he has been benched for the season so far.
Glenn Phillips
Glenn Phillips is another New Zealand player who failed to display his talent in the Indian Premier League. Last year, he played five matches for SRH and scored only 39 runs. In this season, SRH has a very strong batting lineup, and therefore they are not making any changes to their lineup.
Navdeep Saini
Navdeep Saini, who has played 11 T20I matches, did not get a single match in IPL 2024. RR bought him for 2.6 crore, but he has not been given many matches, having played only two matches in 2022 and 2023.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz
In his T20 international career, he has featured in 20 matches, accumulating 534 runs, including three half-centuries, with a strike rate of nearly 138. KKR included him in the Playing XI in IPL 2023, where he scored 227 runs in 11 matches. In this season, so far, he has not played a single game.
