Fit Deepak Chahar sets focus on T20 World Cup 2024, hell bent to prove his worth

India pacer Deepak Chahar is fully fit and has set his eyes on the T20 World Cup 2024, firmly believing that he deserves a place in the squad

India pacer Deepak Chahar is fully fit and has set his eyes on the T20 World Cup 2024. The CSK pacer missed out on the T20I series against South Africa and Afghanistan owing to personal reasons. With no more T20Is left for India ahead of the T20 WC, IPL 2024 automatically becomes the audition stage.

Fully fit Chahar eyes T20 World Cup 2024 spot

Speaking to PTI, Chahar admitted that he had missed out on the series due to personal reasons and that he would have played the series if it was in India. Chahar added that he resumed practice after going to the NCA and that he was fit for IPL 2024 and T20 World Cup 2024.

“I was with my father in the hospital for 25 days. He was not in Agra. He was admitted in Aligarh. We all had to stay there,” he said.

“I was only able to do some exercises. I was not able to do any cricketing activities. That’s why I was not ready for the Afghanistan series. I had not practised for a month or so.

After that I went to the NCA. I started my practice again and now I am fully fit. Everything is good. I trained really hard for the IPL and the World Cup,” he added.

Chahar pinned the blame on injuries for missing the last two T20 WCs. He backed his inclusion in the WC squad, noting that India required a tailender who could bat in the depth as well.

I have missed two (T20) World Cups because of my injuries. If I was fully fit, I would have been a part of the World Cup team as well. In any scenario or (in) any team combination, there is always a requirement for a bowler who can bat at No. 7, 8, 9. I have done that and scored runs for the Indian team,” he said.
