Fit-again Kuldeep Yadav targets ICC Champions Trophy via Ranji Trophy

Kuldeep Yadav hasn't played a game since he injured himself last year in October.

Kuldeep Yadav has passed his fitness test, quite literally. The left-arm wrist spinner was expected to get a clean bill of health certificate by January 26 from the National Cricket Academy (NCA) medical staff. Three days later, it has been confirmed by the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) that Kuldeep is fit for selection in the last round of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 season.

Kuldeep Yadav faces Ranji Test before Champions Trophy

Uttar Pradesh will take on Madhya Pradesh at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore, starting January 30. The India cricket team had included Kuldeep Yadav in the squad for the ICC Champions Trophy despite concerns over his fitness. His selection in UP’s team is a great sign before the India vs. England ODI series on February 6.

The reason behind the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) asking Kuldeep to play in the Ranji Trophy could be to test whether he’s match fit or not. The last thing Team India or the BCCI would want is the wrist spinner to pull out of the ICC Champions Trophy at the last moment.

Kuldeep Yadav injury and rehab

Kuldeep had undergone groin surgery in Germany after an injury he incurred during the India vs. New Zealand Test series. He missed the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and has been under the BCCI’s keen eye at the NCA. After spending a long time getting back to fitness, Kuldeep seems ready for action now. Of course, it can’t be confirmed whether the wrist spinner is ready or not until he plays that Ranji Trophy game and remains unscathed for the India vs. England Test series.
