Dean Elgar has been an excellent servant of the game. The opener is the perfect embodiment of Test cricket and what it stands for. His grit, determination, and stubborn attitude on the field reminded everyone of good old-fashioned cricket. With the southpaw calling it international cricket, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma gave Elgar a parting gift: a signed India cricket team jersey.
Elgar was India’s biggest tormentor in Test cricket. Out of his 86 Tests, the South African legend played the most against India (15). Among the nine Test teams he’s played against, Dean Elgar has scored the most runs against India (1012).
People say actions speak louder than words, but what Rohit Sharma said about Dean Elgar will always remain with the former Protean skipper. When asked about South African legend’s retirement in the post-match presentation, the Indian skipper said:
“Such an important player for SA, very gritty; we appreciate that. I’d like to wish him the best. Brilliant career; best wishes ahead.“
