The in-form Indian batting order crumbled in the IND vs AUS World Cup final at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday. Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, and Ravindra Jadeja, who have been the stars for Team India with the bat in the tournament, failed to get going on a tricky pitch as India finished with 240 in 50 overs.
After being put to bat, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma started the innings in the aggressive manner. However, Australia got the breakthrough with the wicket of Shubman Gill who departed on 4.
Rohit continued to play counter-attacking cricket and scored a quickfire 47 before Glenn Maxwell got the better of the Indian skipper.
Rohit’s wicket turned out to be the turning point as India couldn’t get going with the same tempo. Virat Kohli (54) and KL Rahul (66) scored gritty fifties but failed to rotate the strike and Team India were restricted to a below par score in the big final.
The disappointing batting performance from India gave birth to a meme-fest.
