Pakistan spearhead Shaheen Afridi has quashed rumours of a rift between him and Pakistan skipper Babar Azam. Reports of a potential spat between the two have been doing the rounds on social media after Pakistan’s defeat to Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup. With World Cup 2023 in two weeks’ time, fans were concerned about the team.
However, Shaheen Afridi has refuted all those claims after the left-arm pacer posted a picture of them sitting together and chatting. The tall pacer posted the picture with the caption, “family ❤️”.
With immense pressure on both Babar and Shaheen to perform well at the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023, this news of rekindled friendship between the two bodes well for an injury-hit Pakistan side.
Pakistan has already lost Naseem Shah, and concerns regarding Haris Rauf’s fitness are also hovering over their heads. If Babar and Shaheen hadn’t solved their issues, the Men in Green could have been doomed before they even started the tournament.
Pakistan cricket rift?
As per Bol News, skipper Babar Azam was not happy after their team’s exit from the Asia Cup 2023 and lashed out at the non-performers in the tournament.
“If you continue this way, you will be forgotten soon. World Cup is your last chance,” Babar allegedly told his teammates.
However, Babar’s statements seemed to have gone not too well with Shaheen Afridi, who clapped back at his skipper, “At least appreciate those who bowled and batted well.”
Babar did not like Afirid’s interruption and replied, “I know who is performing well and who is not.”
Things escalated from there, and wicketkeeper Mohammed Rizwan had to step in to calm things down before the disgruntled Pakistan team made their way back to the hotel.
