Fake news alert! Recent reports suggesting that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is planning a league for retired cricketers have been categorically denied by BCCI Secretary Jay Shah. The rumours had gained traction with claims of former players approaching Jay Shah to initiate a league similar to the Indian Premier League (IPL).
BCCI’s Legends League? Fake!
Times of India’s senior journalist Gaurav Gupta reported on Shah’s interaction with the media, where the BCCI secretary firmly stated, “It’s fake news. No proposal has been discussed about that.” This clear denial effectively puts an end to the speculation surrounding a potential Legends League in India.
Currently, there are multiple Legends Leagues operating globally, including the World Championship and Legends League Cricket, where we time and again witness old rivalries resurface. The likes of Shahid Afridi vs Yuvraj Singh, Brett Lee vs Chris Gayle – we are akin to see the blasts from the past. The possibility of India joining this trend with its own league had generated excitement among cricket fans. However, with Shah’s statement, these hopes have been temporarily dashed.
